Steven Moellering - Piano Instructor
Steven Moellering, a native of St. Louis, has recently completed the Doctoral program in Piano Performance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under Dr. Mark Clinton, where he also completed the Master of Music degree in Piano Performance (May 2002). While at UNL, he studied composition with Dr. Randall Snyder and jazz with Tom Larson. Steven completed his undergraduate studies in Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he studied
with Jerry Anderson. In May 2000, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance.
In the summers of 2006 and 2007, Steven performed a four-hand piano recital in Matsudo, Japan, with pianist Yukiko Hirano. In 2001 and 2005, he was a participant in a two-week international chamber music course, which took place in Prague, CZ. In 2004, he played an original solo piano piece for the well-known pianist & composer William Bolcolm. Steven also received a masterclass from Christopher O’Riley, host of the popular radio program “From the
Top.”
In 1994, while under the instruction of Sr. Alice Eugene Tighe of the St. Louis Symphony Music School (formerly known as CASA), he was a finalist the American Music Scholarship Association (AMSA) Piano Competition in Cincinnati and, as a prizewinner, performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Awards during his academic career at UNL have included a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, the Henry F. & Jean D. Holtzclaw Fellowship, the Anne R. Gray Fellowship, and the Vreeland Award for Student Composers. Professional Memberships have included Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Music Teachers’ National Association (MTNA), Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA), and St. Joseph Area Music Teachers Association (SJAMTA).
