Make Music A Part Of Your Life!
Michael Eckstein
Guitar & Ukulele Instructor

Michael Eckstein has been playing the guitar for over two decades. He is an honors graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he focused on guitar and arranging, receiving a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Composition. He has studied the guitar with a variety of teachers including Bud Dimock, Jon Damian, John Wilkins, Brett Wilmott, Gabe Cornella, John Stowell, and Eric Bart.

Michael performs regularly around the Bay Area, both as a solo guitarist-vocalist and in ensembles. He is currently a member of the Taylor-Ramirez trio and has performed with such notable artists as Luciana Souza, Tara Linda, and Ted Sistrunk. In 2009 Michael released a full length cd of all original music entitled “Far West Day Dream”. He is also a dj and host at KALX 90.7 FM in Berkeley, where he regularly books and interviews musicians and bands on the radio.

Since 1998 Michael has been teaching guitar and electric bass lessons to students of all ages. As an instructor, Michael covers a broad range of musical styles and techniques. His students learn to play rock, folk, pop, blues, jazz, country, Latin, funk, and more. He believes in a well-rounded curriculum to develop skills in sight reading, song repertoire, music theory, fingerstyle and pick playing, ear training, accompaniment, and improvisation. Michael teaches from traditional method books, guitar tablature, and audio/video recordings. In lessons he often plays electric bass, giving guitar students experience in a band setting. Michael’s diverse background as a singer-songwriter, composer, arranger, and performer of cover songs allows him to tailor his lessons to each student’s individual interests and needs.
