He believes in a well-rounded curriculum to develop skills in note reading, song melody, chords, strumming, fingerstyle, and plectrum playing. Ear training, music theory, songwriting, and improvisation are also explored. Students can learn a variety of styles including pop, folk, classical, rock, jazz, country, Latin, blues, funk, ethnic/world music, religious, and holiday songs. Michael teaches from traditional method books, guitar tablature, transcriptions, and audio/video recordings. During our recitals, Michael may accompany students on stage and in lessons plays guitar, ukulele, and bass, giving them experience in a band setting. His diverse background as an educator, songwriter, composer, arranger, and performer of cover songs allows him to tailor lessons to individual interests and needs.
